Salt lamps, when lit, draw in in moisture from the air and convert any damaging positive ions to negative ions. This results in the air being purified with health benefits such as reduced fatigue, insomnia and bronchial problems. Great for rooms with electrical appliances and also as a night light for children.

The lamps are not suited to areas of excess moisture or humidity, eg. bathrooms or outdoors. In humid weather, the best antidote is to turn it on. Also keep on a place mat to protect furniture. If you do get a salt build-up, just wipe with a damp cloth, then turn it on.
