Vetiver Essential Oil

Vetiver 100% - (Vetiveria zizanioides)

Steam extracted from the roots of this plant which originated in Java the Vetiver is a perennial plant with a straight stem and grass-like leaves. It is botanically related to the plants that produce Citronella and Lemongrass. Vetiver has a scented complex white root system that is used in the making of the essential oil.

The Vetiver plant is first established for two years to build up the oil contained in the root system, as they are not heavily laden. The roots are then dried and cut up for distillation. The resulting oil is dark brown in colour.

Scent: Spicy, earthy and pepper-like. The super abundant root system is made into oil so relaxing it is called the Oil of Tranquillity. The essential oil is for external use only and should always be diluted with a suitable carrier oil such as Sweet Almond Oil before applying to the skin. Keep it away from children and pets. It is non-toxic and non-irritant but with possible sensitization in some individuals.

Aromatherapists recommend vetiver for acne, anorexia, arthritis, cuts, debility, depression, insomnia, muscular aches and pains, nervous tension, oily skin, rheumatism, sedative, sprains, stiffness, stress buster, wounds. The therapeutic properties of Vetiver oil are: antiseptic, antispasmodic, stimulant and nervine.
